Creativ Festival Fall 2018, Sewn Up

The Creativ Festival Fall 2018 is History!

My contribution to the Creativ Festival Fall 2018 was helping Catherine Goetz, owner of  Distinctive Sewing Supplies, as part of her amazing team.  We began set-up around 9 am on Wednesday, and by 12:30 we were finished!  Lorna, Beth and I shared a lovely room at the Garden Hilton, which was nearby, so we checked in, unpacked, drove to the Lone Star around the corner for quiet (not) dinner, went back to our room for a glass of wine and were in bed and asleep by 9.

All three days featured a fashion show “Sew a Wardrobe that Works” featuring patterns and fabrics that not only work together, but work for YOU.  Lorna and I modeled while Catherine spoke about the garments we were wearing.  It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces in the crowd!

Jocelyn came in to help in the booth Friday, and she was busy cutting fabric for customers.

I taught three different classes;

  • Fashion Fabric Know-How which was all about choosing the correct fabric for your project, and the ins and outs of working with today’s most popular fabrics including stretch wovens, knits and natural fibres.
  • Designer Neck-line Finishes in which I showed how to apply
professional finishes to various knit and woven necklines.
  • Twin Needle Mastery, the why, when and where of the
    versatile twin sewing machine needle.

Attendance was great, and I got standing ovations at the end of 2 of my classes. (Thank you.) (I almost fainted.)

The Creativ Festival Fall 2018 closed at 5 pm on Saturday, and Catherine, Beth, Lorna and I had it all packed and in the truck BEFORE 7 PM!

Sew What’s Next?

The Distinctive Sewing Supplies retreat, that’s what’s next.  November 19-21, 2018 at the Elm Hurst Inn and Spa, Ingersoll Ontario.  (It’s full) Feature Guest: Émilie of Jalie Sewing Patterns will be on hand all three days to assist with Jalie patterns.  And me, too!  In addition, I’ll be helping out and doing some demos.  My demos will  include how to do a “Full Bust Adjustment” on sewing patterns, also I’ll share some of my finishing and twin needle tips.

  1. I’ll start with what I didn’t like! I didn’t like not being able to take all your classes!
As usual the best part of the show was Catherine’s fashion show and her booth.
In general the show gets smaller and smaller. I go basically for you girls! Always great ideas, patterns and not least of all Catherine’s fabrics.

  2. Like Jane, my first priority at any Creativ is Distinctive Sewing and the lovely ladies in the booth. Of course the fabric draws me in, too. In these days of cheap, starch- bulked no name fabric, I can always count on exceptional quality and service with a side of good humour and camaraderie. The classes are an added bonus, and I can’t wait for the retreat! I noticed there are fewer exhibitors and much less diversity in product offerings, which is sad. But I think the show organizers and the venue are pricing things out of existence for independent product sellers. Go Team Distinctive!

  3. It is always a treat to meet up with the regular customers with Distinctive Sewing Supplies, it’s all about quality and fun. Fewer exhibitors, last-minute brochures leaving no time to plan, sound systems that didn’t work, don’t contribute to a successful show.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the retreat.

  4. Hi Yvette, I enjoyed the Distinctive Sewing Supplies fashion show and am also a lover of Jalie patterns. I, too, would have loved to take your classes but the brochure arrived so late this year, it was too late for me to ask for the time off work. It used to arrive in August; this year it was less than two weeks before it opened.
I’m the person (likely one of many) who dropped by on Saturday to say how much I enjoy your blog. Please don’t stop!

    • Thanks, Marie, for your comment, for dropping by the Distinctive Sewing Supply booth, and for enjoying my blog! Letting the organizers of the CreativFesitval know about your concerns might be good for the future of the show.
