Tree Block for Australia using Flying Geese

Flying Geese Tree Block for Australia

Tree block for Australia

Finishes at 12 1/2 inches
You need 3 colours to make this tree block for Australia, cream for the background, green for the trees, and a scrap for the trunk.

I make my geese the “4-at-a-time” way, starting with a goose square (green in this case)  7 1/4 “ and four sky squares that at 3 7/8”. If you need a tutorial I have available upon request. (You’ll have 1 unused flying goose unused for another project.) (These finish at 3 1/2” x 6 1/2” each.) Please email me at yvettechilcott (at) yahoo (dot) ca with your request.

Join 3 geese units to make the tree. It should measure 9 1/2” high and 6 1/2” wide. Press the seams away from the point.

From the cream cut 2 pieces 3 1/2” x 9 1/2” and 2 pieces 3 1/2” x 5 3/4”.  From the brown cut 1 piece 3 1/2” x 2”.

Sew 1 of the 9 1/2 inch long pieces to each side of the tree unit. Press seams away from the trees.

add the side pieces to the tree block for Australia

Sew the brown strip between the short ends of the 5 3/4” strips, press seam toward the brown.

trunk unit

Sew the trunk strip to the bottom of your tree, press the seam down toward the trunk.

Your block should finish at 12 1/2”. If it doesn’t, check that seam allowance!
