Jalie’s Sarah Panty

Jalie’s Sarah panty is much more than for periods!

Have you sewn Jalie’s Sarah panty?  I just completed teaching a class for That Sewing Place Newmarket and this time our topic was these panties.  I ended up making a number of teaching samples so I could demonstrate the options and steps.  During our classes it became clear that quite a few of my students were sewing these for incontinence.  Not periods.

The Fabrics for Jalie’s Sarah Panty

Discovery Fabrics  carries the most amazing performance fabrics, including an assortment for panties, aptly named “Panty Pack”. Be sure to check out the options, including the size of the fabric cuts and added Zorb and PUL barrier.  I ordered a pack so I could try the different fabrics available and used a variety for the samples shown above.  For most of my linings, (and the dark green pair) I used Discovery’s Chitosante Interlock. We used “Zorb” inside for the absorbent layer(s).

Such a Versatile Pattern

Jalie’s Sarah panty is well designed for comfort, style and practicality. The self-fabric waistband is very comfortable to wear, and there is a stretch-lace waistband option, too.  You could also choose a stretch lace fabric for the sides as shown on the pattern cover.  I like that there are no horizontal seams and that the middle of the front/back is lined.  On it’s own, with no absorbent layer, it makes a great panty.  Add just one layer of absorbent plus the barrier and you have a stylish panty to protect against those dribbly sneezes.

Then you also have the options included for period use, both in a daytime and a nighttime option.  (Both options would be useful for incontinence, too.  I think of the savings, both in $$$ and in landfill/garbage by sewing your own.)

Also included in Jalie’s Sarah panty pattern is a pattern for an Easy-to sew reusable pad that you can wear with your regular underwear. Snaps help keep it in place and wings protect the edges of your underwear.

In Conclusion

This is a “keeper” pattern, one that I’ll sew again and again.  I am working on putting a hands-on class together here in Trenton so if you’d like that, please email me at yvettechilcott@yahoo.ca.  I also have another Jalie garment sewing retreat booked for May 31/June1 of 2024 with a few spaces remaining.
