Scrappy Broken Hearts

You know I LOVE working with scrap fabrics.  This month’s Scrap Happy class focussed on Scrappy Broken Hearts. Using reds, pinks  and tans it makes me think of Valentines Day and chocolates.

And man are they addictive!

I started with 4 and made a cushion cover.

Then a few more and a few more and there were 16 more.

And a quilt was born. A small quilt.  The blocks finish at 8 inches so it’s only 32 inches square, but my boy Slade approves!  And yes, he’s a big cat!  I changed the layout a bit, turned the top 2 rows upside down.

A small buttonhole stitch on my Epic2 sewn with black thread really makes these scrappy broken hearts pop.  I like the rustic look of this stitch.

Next came borders.  My next Scrap Happy class is touching on Scrappy Quilt Borders, and this little quilt is just begging for borders.

I added 4 borders to enhance it and it grew from 32 inches to almost 50 inches square.

I’ll detail the process in my next Scrap Happy Class, Sunday January 30th.  If you’d like to join us, please email me for information.  yvettechilcott@yahoo.ca

I quilted it today on my “new to me” longarm, will bind it tomorrow and call it done!  I LOVE it, and will keep it for myself!

    • Thank you Suzanne. I’m enjoying your progress as well, can’t wait to see your end result. My experiences with the borders will be an informative class, too. I learned a lot and look forward to seeing you there.
