Third Jalie Garment Sewing Retreat

Yes, I’m Gearing up for my Third Jalie Garment Sewing Retreat

These retreats are sew much fun!  I started this retreat thing in November of 2018.  My friend Catherine invited me to help out at a retreat that she organized in Ingersoll Ontario.  The featured guest was Emilie of Jalie, and I was hooked.  I wrote a post about it, click here to read it.  Here are some of my sample garments.

Then, That Sewing Place in Newmarket invited me to do an Yvette Event and now I’ve gone there 3 times for weekend Jalie Garment Sewing Retreats, the last one was a week ago.  It was fantastic.

In between all of that, covid came.

My third Jalie garment sewing retreat

And now I host my own retreats here in Trenton Ontario.  I’m gearing up for my third Jalie Garment Sewing Retreat!  Here’s some information:

2-Day Jalie Garment Sewing Retreat

with Yvette Matthys Chilcott laFosse

Featuring Jalie’s well drafted garment patterns, here is their story:

Jalie is a mother-daughter company. It was founded by Jeanne in 1983 when Émilie was only 3 years old. The two now make a fantastic duo who brings you practical patterns for the whole family. The company has been based in the family home since the very beginning and practically everything is done in house, from pattern design and prototyping to photo shoots and packaging.

Jalie has recently expanded their size range up to 5X so there are now stylish patterns for all.

Dates:  Friday November 17th 10-5 and Saturday November 18th 10-4

Location: “Multi-purpose” room at the Quinte West Public Library, 7 Creswell Avenue, Trenton.

Goal:  To sew one or more of Jalie’s well drafted garment patterns with my help. My aim is to help you improve your sewing skills while making professional looking garments.   I’ve made most of their patterns and have developed many techniques to aid in fitting and finishing which I’ll share with the attendees.

To do Ahead of the Retreat: (I can help you with this process)

Register and pay me.  Get your pattern online directly from Jalie.  https://jalie.com  Many of their patterns are available in a paper format and also in PDF format.  With the PDF format you have a few options; (and they are ALL included with your purchase) choose the “print at home” version, print the pages on your home printer tape them together (time consuming but not hard), choose the “copy-shop” version and send the file to a local printer (I use JB Printing) via email or on a memory stick and have THEM print the pattern on 1 large sheet of paper or choose the “projector” version if you have a projector set up for that purpose.  OR, team up and do a bulk order, ask me about it.

then

On thin paper (I use the medical paper on a roll) trace off the correct size.  I can help you measure and select the size beforehand.  If you are a beginner, you can do this at the retreat with my help.

Purchase (or raid your stash) for the correct amount and type of fabric and gather whatever notions like buttons, elastic, interfacing, zippers, etc.  Be sure your fabric is pre-washed!  It’s heartbreaking to sew a garment that fits, only to have it shrink the first time it gets laundered.

Show up for 10 am on November 17th  with all your stuff and your lunch.  I will provide snacks and refreshments as well as an ironing board with a profession quality iron, a raised cutting table and some spare sewing notions.  You’ll get a table to yourself and the room is light and spacious.  It’s all on the main level with ample parking.

In Closing

If you are interested in sewing garments that fit, are stylish, and are comfortable to wear, consider attending a retreat.  I hope to see you at one of mine.
