Boxer Briefs

Boxer Briefs, Jalie 3885, “Gerald”

This is the third pair of boxer briefs I’ve sewn for my guys. I used Jalie’s pattern #3885 Gerald, again, this time they’re for my hubby.  I was going to title this post “Boxer Briefs for Bill”, but he’s not fond of public attention so I didn’t.  But they ARE for him.  Up until now he’s been the tightey-whitey kind of guy, and only recently graduate to coloured briefs.  So this is a stretch for him.

Gerald comes in 27 sizes, which makes it a real versatile pattern.  Bill is a fairly big guy, 6 ft 3 with a 42 inch waist..  I sewed him size CC, made NO alterations, and they fit him perfectly.  You’ll have to trust me on that, there will be no photos of him modelling them.

This pair took me less than 2 hours from cutting to completion, and that included the time it took me to fiddle with my cover-stitch machine to get a decent looking stitch.  I wanted these to look “store-bought” as much as possible, so I used a reverse cover-stitch on the leg hems and on some of the seams.  Woolly nylon in the looper makes the seams look good, and have plenty of stretch.

I highly recommend this pattern!  My piece of fabric is an “unknown fiber” but it has plenty of stretch in both directions, and a 1 meter remnant cost me $4.  AND I can get 2 pairs of these boxer briefs from that $4 fabric!  The Dutch in me is applauding!

Bill’s Review of his new Boxer Briefs

After wearing this pair for a little while he said “you could make me more”.  That’s all the encouragement I need, off to the sewing room I go.

I reviewed this pattern a year or so ago, here’s a link to that post.
