Galaxie 2 Kitchen Wearables and Accessories

Galaxie 2

This collection is all about kitchen accessories and wearables.

This sewing pattern is the second one of the GALAXIE collection, a yearly tradition! All items listed below are included in this pattern that comes with fully illustrated instructions. GALAXIE is the perfect pattern for gifts and uses easy-to-find fabrics.

PHOENIX APRON

  • Modern apron with sleek pocket. Ties cross in the back and attach through grommets or buttonholes. If you use a different fabric for the facing, you will need 10 cm (4’’) of fabric.
  • Comes in 6 sizes (3 sizes for children/teens, 3 sizes for adults)

My sample was made in large size, and I used a striped fabric with gold threads woven through in a stripe pattern. In order to match the stripes perfectly along the front seam, due to the slippery nature of the fabric, I used 1/4″ wide steam-a-seam to fuse it before sewing it.  The front pocket is genius and I love how the ties fit through the buttonholes.  I tied them at the front and at the back, either way, it works well.

VENUS HEAD BANDS

  • Head band with elastic in the back and optional bow.
  • Comes in 4 sizes (from 19” to 23” head circumference).

I used scraps of fabric for all my samples.  My first one is in the same fabric as the Phoenix apron.  It was quick and easy to make, and I “cheated” a bit.  Instead of sewing the opening in the back closed by hand, I used a short, narrow zigzag, therefore making it an even faster project.

My second sample was a “what if” thought, polar fleece for warmth.  I did make the top tie but prefer it without for my own use. Which version do you like?    I used a scrap of ITY for the back band.

ORION BELT

  • Bellowed belt to free your hands. It has zippered and open pockets to store money, phone, pen, etc.
  • Comes in 5 sizes (2 for kids, 3 for adults)

COSMOS LUNCH PLACEMAT

  • Roll-up placemat with zippered pouch and an open pocket for a napkin that you can carry in your lunch box!

I made mine using left-over pieces of quilting cotton in coordinating colours and I’ll use it often.  I take my lunch with me on many occasions, and the zippered compartment will keep my utensils from getting lost.

PANDORA BOWL COVERS

  • Reversible covers for jars, bowls, pie plates.
  • Comes in 5 practical sizes

I made my sample in a seasonal print and have already gifted it to my son in law who makes kombucha.  It was simple to sew, and using a good quality elastic will make it long lasting.  I suspect that if you use PUL, (polyurethane laminate) your cover would keep your food from drying out.
