Martin Lounge Pants & Boxers

Jalie’s Martin lounge pants & boxers sewing pattern brings back some good sewing memories.  I’ve been sewing for almost 60 years and still LOVE to sew.   (Yikes, where did that time go?)  My first husband was a big man, and worked outdoors in all kinds of Ontario/Canadian weather.  He wore boxers for comfort, and he found the style like this pattern, without the back seam the most comfortable. All those years ago I used a worn-out pair of his as a pattern, and sewed them as needed, flannel for winter and cotton for summer.

Jalie’s Description of Martin Lounge Pants & Boxers:

Relaxed-fit pants and boxers with elastic waist, faux fly, rear patch pocket. Designed without a back seam for more comfort.

This pattern includes sizes F to GG, which includes kids (toddler size 2), teens, and adult sizes (up to 127 cm (50”) waist.

It is also available in our expanded size range (108 cm (42 1/2”) to 158 cm (62”) waist).

My Fun with Martin:

For my first sew using this pattern, I chose a medium weight cotton in a yarn-dye plaid and quickly made a pair for hubby’s youngest. I cut the back pocket on the bias for fun, and got lucky matching the plaid for the seams of the back piece.

Another Martin

When I heard that my son was driving to Ontario from Alberta for a short visit, I wanted to sew him a pair of Martins, too, in flannel.  I found the BEST flannel locally, a Canadian brand named Siltex (based in Winnipeg, Manitoba). (I carried a lot of their fabric when I owned the store)  The quality is second to none.  Prewashing flannel is a MUST, but often with disappointing results.  Not this one!  It came out of the drier so soft, and felt like velvet.

I couldn’t get a photo with him wearing them, but here are a few hanger shots.

In Conclusion

I really LOVE this pattern, it’s easy to sew, and looks great on.  The size range is incredible,, sizes F to GG, which includes kids (toddler size 2), teens, and adult sizes (up to 127 cm (50”) waist.  It is also available in their expanded size range (108 cm (42 1/2”) to 158 cm (62”) waist).

I’d love to use this pattern to teach a class, it will be a great place for a beginner to sew something awesome for the guys.  There are some great sewing techniques built into this pattern, making it a great learning tool.  Experienced sewists will find it fun, fast and easy.
