Sew with me, in person or virtually, either way, I love spending time with sewists!

Sew with me on Tuesdays

A great group of sewing enthusiasts meet at the Quinte West Library most Tuesday afternoons to sew together in person.  We have quilters and garment makers of all levels and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of giggles and laughs.

Sew with me Virtually one Sunday a Month

One Sunday morning a month I teach “Scrap Happy” via Zoom. This month the class is on the 23rd of October, at 10 a.m. I focus on using scrap fabrics and sewing useful items to use yourself or give as gifts.  Cost is $5, payable by etransfer and the class is limited to 20 people. I’ve been offering this venue for a few years now, here’s a link to another one.

Sew with me at That Sewing Place, Newmarket

This event has me very excited, as it’s the first “in-person” class for me at That Sewing Place.  I’ve been teaching a number of Jalie garment classes via Zoom for them, but in person is awesome.  I’m pretty sure this event is full, but more are in the works.

Here’s a pic of the fabrics that I’m making my class samples with: the light coloured one is French Terry in a heathery sage green for Jalie’s Nathalie and the black is a cotton/spandex for Jalie’s Zoom modern joggers.

The fabric has arrived, one garment is sewn and the other is cut out, ready to sew. The plaid is more blue than the pic shows and the other fabric is black.  The plaid has become Karine, a raglan cardigan by Jalie, and the black will become pants.

Sew with me at a Jalie Garment Sewing Retreat! (Space for 2 people)

sew with me at my Jalie Garment Retreat

2-Day Jalie Garment Sewing Retreat

Featuring Jalie’s well drafted garment patterns, here is their story:

Jalie is a mother-daughter company. It was founded by Jeanne in 1983 when Émilie was only 3 years old. The two now make a fantastic duo who brings you practical patterns for the whole family. The company has been based in the family home since the very beginning and practically everything is done in house, from pattern design and prototyping to photo shoots and packaging.

Jalie has recently expanded their size range up to 5X so there are now stylish patterns for all.

Dates:  Friday November 18th 10-5 and Saturday November 19th 10-4

Location: “Multi-purpose” room at the Quinte West Public Library, 7 Creswell Avenue, Trenton.

Goal:  To sew one or more of Jalie’s well drafted garment patterns with my help. My aim is to help you improve your sewing skills while making professional looking garments.   I’ve made most of their patterns and have developed many techniques to aid in fitting and finishing which I’ll share with the attendees.

To do Ahead of the Retreat: (I can help you with this process)

Register and pay me.  Get your pattern.  From your favourite garmentry shop, locally at Groovy Threads or online directly from Jalie.  https://jalie.com  Many of their patterns are available in a paper format and also in PDF format.  With the PDF format you have a few options; (and they are ALL included with your purchase) choose the “print at home” version, print the pages on your home printer tape them together (time consuming but not hard), choose the “copy-shop” version and send the file to a local printer (I use JB Printing) via email or on a memory stick and have THEM print the pattern on 1 large sheet of paper or choose the “projector” version if you have a projector set up for that purpose.

then

On thin paper (I use the medical paper on a roll) trace off the correct size.  I can help you measure and select the size beforehand.  If you are a beginner, you can do this at the retreat with my help.

Purchase (or raid your stash) for the correct amount and type of fabric and gather whatever notions like buttons, elastic, interfacing, zippers, etc.

Show up for 10 am on November 18th with all your stuff and your lunch.  I will provide snacks and refreshments as well as an ironing board with a profession quality iron, a raised cutting table and some spare sewing notions.  You’ll get a table to yourself and the room is light and spacious.  It’s all on the main level with ample parking.

Whew!  That’s a lot of sewing! It’s my passion and I love it.  I hope to see you soon, warmest regards!
